Wim Jonker Klunne is a renowned international expert in the fields of renewable energy, rural energy and energy efficiency. He has an academic background in Civil Engineering and Management with specialisation into (renewable) energy in developing countries. Wim has over 20 years of working experience in the energy field through involvement in a wide range of education, research and consultancy projects around the world.
He worked on several projects on implementation of renewable energy in southern Africa on behalf of the Energy research Centre of the Netherlands (ECN), the World Bank, UNDP, GEF, and Danida.

Wim successfully implemented the ADB FINESSE program at the African Development Bank in Tunis on mainstreaming renewable energy and energy efficiency in the operations of the Bank throughout Africa.
From 2009 till end 2014 Wim was attached to the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) in South Africa, where he is working on research in the field of sustainable implementation of renewable energy and energy efficiency projects.

Currently Wim is the Programme Director of the Energy & Environment Partnership prograame for southern and east Africa, a challenge fund supported by the governments of Finland, the UK and Austria (for details see our website at EEPAfrica.org)

Wim has extensive experience as consultant, trainer, facilitator and researcher in the following fields:

  • the link between energy and rural development in southern countries
  • renewable energy (microhydro power, wind, solar and biomass)
  • energy modelling
  • energy efficient construction
  • energy management
  • participatory approaches in Natural  Resource Management
  • Geographic Information Systems (GIS)
  • Clean Development Mechanism (CDM)
  • Global Environment Facility (GEF) projects
Wim has working experience in the Netherlands (native), Austria, Botswana, Costa Rica, Germany, Honduras, Kenya, Latvia, Lesotho, Madagascar, Mozambique, Namibia, Nepal, South Africa (resident), Swaziland (resident), Tunisia (resident), Uganda, Zambia and Zimbabwe (resident).
